My natural instinct is not to lie, but occasionally you come across a lie so good that you can't deny the power of it.

Like the Coen brothers claiming that Fargo was a true story. Imagining that those events had actually taken place significantly enhanced the shock, humour and horror of the film. When I found out that they had lied to give themselves greater permission in the story – I thought they were geniuses.

It worked because the effect was so stunning – also, perhaps, because I already admired the directors. Perhaps it's okay to lie in your content when the outcome is so effective, and when it is to people who love you already.

It perhaps would not hurt to tell little lies in your content as long as people at the end when they find out the truth will be able to laugh about it and cannot believe that they fell for it in the first place.
